Who we are
Vaanashastram calculates the Tamil panchangam and horoscopes by the traditional vakya method. This policy explains how we handle personal data, in line with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
Calculating a chart
Your birth date, time and place are sent to our server to calculate the chart, kept only in memory while it is calculated, and are not stored, cached or logged. Any names you type are added to the printout in your own browser and are never sent to the calculation.
What we keep, and only if you choose
Your account (email and the name from your sign-in); charts you save; booking requests; a chart you share with an astrologer; your own AI provider key; AI conversations you choose to keep; and your newsletter email. Charts, messages, notes and keys are stored encrypted. You must accept this policy before we store any of it.
Astrologers
Astrologers are independent. An astrologer sees a chart only if you attach it to a booking and agree. They can open it until 48 hours after the session, it is deleted 7 days after, and you can withdraw it at any time. The astrologer's notes are the only personal data kept after a consultation, and you can ask for them to be deleted.
AI chat
When you chat, we send your question and the computed chart (never names) to the AI provider you chose, using your key or, if offered, the site's key. That provider handles it under its own policy. Please do not type names or contact details into the chat.
Who else handles data
Our hosting and database providers (Vercel and Neon; the database is in Sydney, Australia), an email provider for the newsletter, and, if enabled, an error-tracking service that receives errors with personal data removed. We do not sell data and show no advertising.
Your rights
You can download everything we hold about you, correct it, delete your account and all its data, and withdraw sharing, from the My account page. Deleting the account also deletes your newsletter entry.
How long we keep it
Saved charts, saved conversations, keys and the account stay until you delete them. Shared charts follow the schedule above. Notes stay until you or the astrologer delete them. A newsletter address that unsubscribes is kept only as an opt-out marker. Our database host keeps encrypted backups for a limited period.
Children
This site is for people aged 18 and over. A parent or guardian must create an account and give consent for anyone younger.
